Originally, all Rotary clubs were solely for men, but over the years, membership diversity has greatly expanded. After Rotary International changed its Bylaws to require Clubs to accept women as members in 1989, Nancy Battersby became our first woman member that December; she also served as our Club's first woman president in 1998-1999. During the 1990s, Latvian-born Irene Kalnins joined the Club, followed by Chinese-born George Wang and Puerto Rican native Guillo Rodríguez. In 2002-2003, during the presidency of Luis Ortiz, the Club welcomed its first African-Americans, Lee Moss and Ed Robinson.
